PART TWO OUT TODAY - MON NOV 11
These two starkly beautiful collaborative EPs from Max Cooper and contemporary classical composer Tom Hodge, Fragmented Self, are one for the Erased Tapes fans - some of the most stunningly beautiful music yet written by the two men.
With the exception of the strings that underpin Quantet, each of these collaborations began with Hodge's raw solo piano. Recorded to retain the acoustics of pedals working and fingers on keys, the parts were then transformed by Cooper adding layers of glitch, abrasion, tightly looped samples and his own cinematic style of electronica post-production.
The results are, in turn, fragile and haunting in the piano-and-glitch duet Fragments of Self, stunningly beautiful in Amorphous Romance, euphoric for the epically end-of-night Quantet, and pretty much mad, in one of the most out-there tracks in which the two musicians have been involved, Von Der Klippe Fallen - "Fallen from a cliff".
